View Full Version : Motor As A Generator

I have a question for the many learned folks out there. I have been toying with the idea of building a wind powered generator to maintain or recharge the batteries in my mowers.

I already have a good motor out of an E-15. Would it come close to working as well as the other recommended motors for a homebrew project?

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Mark,

I think the E-15 motor is a wound field motor instead of a permanent magnet one. It could work but would be more complicated as you would have to energize the field in order to make it generate. The PM motors are easy, just give it a twist and its a generator.

An E-8 or E-10 drive motor or even a mowing deck motor would be easier as they are all permanent magnet models.

A lighter weight motor that is being used for windpower now is a modified Fisher & Paykel washing machine motor. A Google search including Fisher & Paykel and windpower will take you amazing places.
