He recalled that Cornell University had some ETs "back then"; he had worked in the grounds-keeping department and recalled they had lots of ET stuff, including front-loaders and fork-lifts.

He also said that one ET was fitted with a pair of motors and 14" blades arranged somewhat like the outer motors on a mower deck, except that the blades were exposed (!). This machine was used to trim around apple trees in the University's experimental orchard -- the blades could cut right up next to a tree trunk, removing weeds and unwanted spouts. He thought it worked well but was rather dangerous (!!!).

Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Any suggestions? The motors were rebuilt last year but I don't know the status of the breakers on them.
Thanks!
These have got to be at least as rare as the JC Penney Electric as they were only around one year as far as I can tell, 1974. I have not picked it up yet and usually I don't count my chickens before they are hatched but I did just drop a check in the mail to him so I figure it's at least a little mine now. :D Guess I'm just a little excited about it. Now I have to find room in the barn! Thanks Peter!

Hello everyone,

Two years ago reverse went out. Toward the end of last year forward was becoming intermittent. My electronic engineering experience pointed me toward the 4QD Pro-120 controller relays so I ordered new ones.

To get to the controller I had to pull a battery and while doing so the post broke off. Further inspection revealed very little lead that was holding it on (poor cast with voids). I was somewhat upset as the almost 10 year old batteries were still functioning well with some noticeable decrease in capacity. I think the reason that they lasted so long was attributed to the initial adding of EDTA-NA4 (Tetrasodium Salt) to each cell.

The new relays were replaced and the controller was reinstalled. I tested it with the remaining 5 batteries and the controller worked perfect in both forward and reverse. I picked up 6 new golf cart batteries and installed them. My tractor is working great again and should be good for another 10 years.

I have been thinking of an easy way operationally to handle this without a lot of web development time and I'm afraid ths is the best I could come up with. I hope this works smoothly. This year's event will be one of a kind due to the 40th Anniversary Reunion of the Elec-Trak employees and we would like to make it as special as we can for them. Therefore I have several asks of the club members this year which are included in the RSVP.

Several ways to RSVP, please try to RSVP no later than July 1st.

Email your RSVP (MS EXCEL) to me at geo@myelec-traks.com. (prefered).

Print off, scan and email your RSVP (Web Page) to me at geo@myelec-traks.com.

Print off and fax your RSVP (Web Page) to me at (615) 532-2849.

Print off and mail your RSVP (Web Page) to me to 302 Hickory Trace Lyles, TN 37098.

Call me at (931) 994-1083.

My personal filled out sample RSVP can be found HERE. Check it out to get an idea what I am bringing so far.

Basically we are looking at adding some special events and would like to get an interest level of which ones we should actually offer. Most importantingly we would like to assemble as wide a variety of different Elec-Trak items as possible to show the old Elec-Trak team all the great things they built and help remind them of those days in the plant so we might also collect some more history and great stories! This is a big deal for many of them so let's make it as special as possible and try to fill in as many blanks as we can. If we each sign-up to bring a tresure we'll have quite a show this year. It will also allow club members to see items they have never seen before.

With all this machinery and people present plus all the items people are bringing to swap, we also have to plan for physical space on the grounds of the museum. The more information you can share with us regarding what you can and will be bringing to both show and swap will really be helpful.

Thanks everyone, I know with all your help we make make this a reunion they will never forget! Call me if you have any questions at all. More information on the event can be found HERE. Times will be from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Currently I have an E-12 and an E-15. I'm very interested in acquiring a C-185 and possibly selling the tractors that I have. However, I'm trying to decide which tractor offers the greatest longevity in terms of parts available, simplicity of parts (in case I need to fabricate something) etc. I'm hoping to still have the tractor by the time I have grandchildren (25+ years away) so I'm really looking for something with staying power. I also want a machine that I won't have to upgrade (because it doesn't have enough power). I guess my main question is: which of the GE and Wheel Horse tractors has the simplest design, the most power, and the greatest number of available parts? Thanks to anyone who can help me out with this.

P.S.
All things being equal I would probably go with the Wheel Horse C-185.

Just for curiousity, I plugged the E15 into a "Kill-A-Watt" meter while recharging it after an hour's mowing. The 8-year-old batteries were down to about 40% (yikes!). This morning the meter showed that it took 3.2 kWh to charge them back up to about 100%. That would be about $0.35 for the electricity at our rates in upstate central New York.

Not that electricity is all that it costs... ;-)

This is the first tractor LT11 (blue Sears) I converted to electric, I got it for repairing anther one just like it. If it wasn't for this one I never would of pursued electric tractors further. But because I was able to get it to work, move it self along and pull a small trailer with battery electric power I converted another one.

This time bigger, more powerful and built with better parts. ET2, Massey Ferguson Garden tractor. I can pull a lot more weight, plow snow, gravel, pull a 1 bottom Brinly plow, cultivator, back blade, gang reel mowers and more.

I then decided to try to find a factory built tractor and was lucky enough to find a EGT200 with mower and snow blower. I am slowly working on it, gathering parts, info and more attachments for it.

Ever since I converted the first lawn tractor, the blue Sears I have always wanted to convert one that can cut grass. I was able to find another Sears LT11 lawn tractor identical to the first one, even the model #s are the same. The best thing about it is that it is complete and fully functional, everything works on it. Almost at the same time I found a Briggs&Stratton Etek motor that could be used to power it. Currently working on it, need to get 4 x 12volt batteries so I can figure out where to put them and make some battery racks.

Have case apart to clean comm and replace bearings. Not sure how the metal rings go back in that set against the bearings? On the small bearing end looks like just one of the thin metal washer type rings, and on the large end there are small and a 'cupped' ring? Please help- this has been sitting and now not sure. Any links to a diagram etc. would be greatly appreciated!

*Also- on this note— a 'coiled spring'-type 'collar' was in as well?????? :hmmmmmmm:
