Need snowblower advice....

The "fins" on my auger look like the previous owner rammed and jammed an 18" rock between the fins and housing. The housing is fine but the fins on half of the spiral need realignment: Otherwise, it's actually in nice shape. It is too cramped for my body tools or to swing a hammer, so I'm going to pull the auger out for straightening. I'm looking at the parts breakdown and wondering if there are any shortcuts, or do I have to disassemble the bearings, etc. on both ends?

Thanks,
Burt

Re: Need snowblower advice....

Hi Burt,
It's pretty easy to take the auger out. You have to take the chain off of the motor sprocket first. I had the motor completely out, but I think you can just loosen things up to get the chain off. Then take out the large bolt on each end of the auger. On the non-motor side that's all that holds it in. On the motor side there's a U-shaped notch that the auger axle just rests in... you can lift it out or you can remove the 3 smaller bolts to remove the bracket with the notch.

Hope that helps,
Ben

Re: Need snowblower advice....

That was a piece of cake! I'm including a parts breakdown to show that I have a different model....All I had to do was loosen the jackshaft to remove the chain from the sprocket. I removed the three bolts that hold the saddle on the motor side, and the bolts on each end, and I took off the trim piece (high-lighted). It came out easily.....Wow! It will be so easy to straighten now!

HOWEVER.......A couple of months ago there was a snowblower on Ebay and the description said it was for a E-12M and that it would not fit anything else.....Is that what I have here? I'm getting it ready to hang it on my E-12 and don't want to go further if it won't work......On the right side of my attachment I highlighted some brackets that I don't have: The part of the snowblower they attach to is there.

I'm confused by the fact that the part that attaches to the tractor has a hoist attaching spool. Everything looks factory and no one has fooled with it. Was this made for dual use?

Re: Need snowblower advice....

One tool that worked for me was a 1/4" x 1.1/2"x18" long steel bar with a slit down the centre cut to fit the depth of the fin, slip bar slit onto fin and bend back, this gives you a rough shape to work on, then use two hammers to wack back to shape.

Re: Need snowblower advice....

The E12M did not come with an electric front lift and I think that accounts for some of the extra attach parts to allow for it to be raised and lowered manually. I think that the E12M also used a different hole spacing on the mounting bracket that slides into the frame. You would likely need a different bracket to get it to mount up on your E12. They likely took the standard blower and added on a few extra parts to get it to work without a front electric lift. Good luck straightening the fins.

Re: Need snowblower advice....

There was a New idea snow blower that probably would not have worked on a non mid mount tractor. The placement of the motor may have hit the front of a 12(15 or 20) tractor. The standard LF snow blower should work on all LF tractors regardless of mid or front mount. The difference is the mounting bracket. The mid mount - mounting bracket will not fit on a front mount tractor and front mount tractor's bracket will not work on a mid mount. The snow blower is the same for either.
